The Canon IR2525 copier comes with an option to remote scan. There are three main buttons on the machine: COPY, SEND, and SCAN/PRINT. We will use the SCAN/PRINT button to enable remote scanning.
On your computer, you will need to install a software called 'Color Network Scangear'. This software can be downloaded from the Canon website, along with the necessary drivers. However, there is an issue: this software is primarily used for making the connection, but you will need another application to perform the actual scanning. Usually, we use Adobe Acrobatโs custom scan option, but if you try to use any other built-in options in Windows, the scanner will not be listed.
After conducting some research, I found that the default Color Network Scangear is used to connect a Twain driver. However, in Windows 10, Twain drivers are deprecated, and we need to use a WIA driver for Windows to recognize the device.
Solution:
We need to remove the default Scangear app and install another one that supports the WIA driver.
Click here to download the new app: WIA_NWSG2_v1.01
After installing the WIA Network Scangear app, run the app and connect your Canon scanner. Once connected, you can use any built-in or third-party scanning apps to perform your scan.
Recommended Scanning App:
One of the best options available online is called 'Not Another PDF Scanner 2' (NAPS2).
After installing NAPS2:
- Click on Profile and create a new profile with your default scan settings.
- Select the connected Canon scanner from the list of available devices.
Once your Canon scanner is connected through the WIA Scangear, it will be available as an option in NAPS2, and you can proceed to scan as needed.
