Things to know before we begin

  • There's no central server involved; data is downloaded from other users (seeders).
  • You need a client application to download torrents.

Process Overview

Follow this process to download torrents:

  1. Install a client application
  2. Search for the file
  3. Get the ".torrent" file
  4. Open it in your client application
  5. Start the download

There are many applications available online, and any of them will work. However, I recommend using one of the following:

  • Deluge
  • uTorrent
  • BitTorrent
  • qBittorrent
  • Vuze
  • BitComet
  • Transmission

Finding Torrents

Now, open a torrent search engine. It's similar to Google, but specifically for searching torrents. You can search Google for various options.

Note: Most torrents nowadays are illegal. Use a VPN to protect your privacy when downloading torrents from the internet.

Download Speed

The speed at which you can download a torrent is determined by the number of seeders available.

A seeder is a torrent user who has the entire file available for downloading. The number of leechers will also affect your download speed. A leecher is a user who is downloading the file but isn't currently seeding. Once the full file is downloaded, the leecher becomes a seeder. If there are significantly more leechers than seeders, the amount of bandwidth available will be lower, resulting in slower downloads.

Download torrents that have a large number of seeders and are of the best quality and size for the fastest speeds.

Starting the Download

After downloading the .torrent file, open it in any of the torrent clients you've installed. The download will begin automatically.

Using Magnet Links

Alternatively, you can use magnet links. On torrent sites, you'll see an option for "magnet links." When you click on them, your default torrent client will open and start the download without the need to download a .torrent file.

Using Hash Values

Some sites will give you a hash value for the torrent. You can use this value to download a torrent. In your client, go to File >> Add Torrent from Link, then paste the hash value. The download will begin when you press enter.
