Fixing Word or Office Issues (Registry Reset, Repair, and Printer Issue)

Initially, I tried to reset Microsoft Word by following these steps:

  1. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > Word in the Registry Editor and delete the key.
  2. Next, go to AppData > Roaming > Microsoft and delete the Word folder.

This worked on one system, but not on another. So, I continued with additional steps to resolve the issue.

If an Office application such as Word or Excel isn’t working correctly, restarting the app may fix the issue. Alternatively, you can try repairing it. Afterward, you may need to restart your computer.

Repair Office from the Control Panel:

Follow these steps to repair Office from the Control Panel:

  1. From the Category view in the Control Panel, go to Programs > Uninstall a program.
  2. Click on the Office product you want to repair and then click Change.

Depending on your Office installation type (either Click-to-Run or MSI-based install), follow the appropriate steps:

For Click-to-Run Installation Type:

  1. In the How would you like to repair your Office programs window, select Online Repair to ensure everything gets fixed, then click Repair.
  2. The Quick Repair option is available as well, but it only detects and replaces corrupted files.

For MSI-based Installation Type:

  1. In the Change your installation window, select Repair and then click Continue.

That should do the trick.

However, in my case, the issue was a bit unusual. I had to uninstall my ID card printer, and then everything worked perfectly.

Note: The layout tab issue in MS Office may be related to printer configurations.
