My outlook data-file had some problems, so I downloaded a recovery repair application from Microsoft website. I don’t remember the name of the app, it was used for troubleshooting the data-file problem. After running the app, even though the problem was not solved it asked if want to send some log files. I said okay.
That was a mistake, from next day onward my C drive space got reduced super fast. When I analysed the file size with TreeSize application, I found that there is a 98 GB log file on %temp% folder related to outlook. Wow!!
C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp. in this location. I deleted the log file, now my system storage is returned. But next day this file appeared again. So how to solve this problem.
After some research i found the following solution. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
Open a Run dialog box. To do this, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation:
Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 8: Press Windows Key + R.
Windows 7 or Windows Vista: Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regedit.exe, and then click OK.
Locate and then click the following subkey:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\x.0\Common\Debug
Note The x.0 placeholder represents your version of Office (16.0 = Outlook 2016, Outlook for Office 365 and Outlook 2019, 15.0 = Outlook 2013, 14.0 = Outlook 2010, 12.0 = Outlook 2007).
Right-click TCOTrace, and then click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
Delete the Outlook.exe.log file from the %Temp% folder if you are not working with a Microsoft support engineer on an issue.

Nowadays when you buy a new Laptop or Computer, It usually comes Windows 10 installed and Office 365 trial included.
If you have a subscription to Office 365 and want to use that on your new machine, sometimes there will be problem with activation. In my case this was because a trial licence key was already installed on the machine.
To solve this problem. We will need to remove the trial key through command line. Lets see how to do this.
Before doing this, open ‘credential manager’ in windows and clear all entries related to office 365.
Then open CMD. Windows+R >> CMD>> press enter.
Go to this directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 16
Then type the command: cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus
This command will check if there are any licence keys installed on the computer and display the last 5 digits of the key. (eg: 3RG2K)
to remove the key from the system, run the following command:
cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:3RG2K
After removing the key uninstall Office 365 that came with the computer. Then open office.com on any web browser. Login to the account with office 365 subscription. Open the payment and subscription tab. Your subscription will be listed here. There will be an install button alongside the subscription information.
Click on the install button to download the setup wizard. Run the exe file when download completes. This will download your version of office from internet. after installation, open word.exe this will ask you to activate.
click activate and login to your Microsoft account with the subscription. The office will get activated now.
Step 1: Connect new phone line to one of the available FXO ports on the gateway. (Can use network cable, one pair crimped to RJ11 Jack)
Step 2: create a SIP trunk on Elastix (freepbx) server. with following details. Trunk Name: (phoneline number) Outbound CID: (leave empty) CID option: Allow any CID Dialed number manipulation rules: (don’t make prefix changes here. leave default values) Trunk Name: (unique number to identify the trunk)
Peer Details: Username=(trunk name) type=friend Secret=(password for the trunk) quality=yes insecure=port,invite host=(ip address of the pstn gateway) dtmfmode=auto context=from-pstn canreinvite=no
Leave everything else default. then click submit. apply.
Step 3: Open PSTN then go to Accounts–User account. fill the following info to connect to Elastix channel: (number of the FXO port, to which the phone line is connected) SIP user ID: (Trunk Name -as per Elastix trunk) Authenticate ID: (trunk name) Authentication Password: (password of the trunk) SIP account: (Select account from available) save, reboot.
Step4: In PSTN Go to settings–channel settings– calling to voip Add following info for the section”unconditional call forward to following.” userID: (channel number:phone number) (eg: ch1:PhoneNumber1;ch2:PhoneNumber2:;) SIP Server: ch1-8:(ip of the elastix server) (ie., use the following sip server for channel 1 to 8) SIP Destination port: ch1-8:5060 (ie., use the following sip port for channel 1 to 8) Leave everything else as default. save, reboot.
Step 5: in PSTN got to FXO lines — Dialing change values in port scheduling schema as we need. Round-robin and/or flexible: rr:1-8 (round robin for all ports) if we want to seperate the ports we can use something like below. rr:1-2;rr:3;rr:4;rr:5;rr:6;rr:7-8 where 1-2 and 7-8 are port groups and others and individual lines.) Prefix to specify port:99 (default value is 99, note this for using in elastix-outbound route) save. reboot.
Step 6: On elastix server. Inbound routes. Add incoming route. DID Number: (phone number of the line) music on hold: (default or specify) leave default values for other stuff. change, Set destination: select extension or IVR. (in my case i selected IVR) if using IVR make sure that the IVR settings is mapped to an extension.
step 6.1: IVR Settings. Change Name: (IVR name) Announcement: (IVR audio file) timeout: 10 Direct dial options: All extentions Time out message: none Invalid message: none repeat Loops: 2 Then map dialpad keys to extensions. eg: 0 == extensions == ((100) Operator) (untick return to ivr)
Step 7: On elastix server. outbound routes. add route. Route Name: (route name) Route CID: (blank) Route Password: (blank) music on hold: (select from available) time group: —permanant route— route position: (change postion of the route related to other routes routes are checked from up to down) PIN set: None Dial Pattern that will use this route:
This section is the important one. there is 4 options to send a call to this route.
01. Append, 02. Prefix, 03. match pattern, 04. called ID
Appendis used to direct a call to a specific port in PSTN. We noted before that the prefix for PSTN is 99. Which means if I put 996 on the prepend part of the route, the call will be directed to the 6th port of the PSTN.
Prefix is used when dialing the number. When i have more than 1 phone lines and I want to dial through a specific one, I will need to tell that to the Elastix server. Prefix is used for this. we should use different prefix for different routes. When server receives a call, prefix is checked and when matched to an outbound route, the call is forwarded through that route.
Before forwarding the route prefix is removed, and the pstn prefix (eg:996) is prepended to the call. when PSTN recieves the call it will know that the call is specific to a port. (in our case port 6). PSTN then removes the prefix and forward the call to that port.
in this example: prepend = 996 prefix = 8 match pattern = XXXXXXXXXX
this is the pattern of the phone number. where X = match any digit 0-9, Z = Match any number 1-9, N= 2-9 We can also add numbers to the pattern,(eg: 05471xxxxx)
caller ID = (not specified) we can specify a caller ID, When we want a specific extension to use this route. To do that just type in the extension number here.
Trunk sequence for matched routes: we can specify which trunk to use when a call is matched to the above conditions. we can specify more than one trunk. in such a case an available line is used when other lines are busy.
Canon IR2525 is a copier that comes with an option to remote scan. There is three main buttons on the machine, COPY, SEND, SCAN/PRINT. We will use the third button (scan/print) and make remote scanning online.
Then on our computer we need to install a software called ‘Color Network Scangear’. This software can be downloaded from canon website along with drivers. But there is a problem. This software is used only for making the connection. You need to use some other app to make the actual scan. Usually we used adobe acrobat custom scan option. but if we try to use any other builtin options of windows, the scanner will not be listed.
After doing my research I found that the default ‘color network scangear’ is used to connect a Twain driver. But in case of windows 10, twain drivers are deprecated we need to use WIA driver in order for windows to see the device.
Solution: we will need to remove the default scangear app and install another one that supports the WIA driver.
After installing Naps2. Click on profile and create your profile with default scan settings and select scan device. After connecting canon with the WIA scangear, scanner will be available as an option in the app.
Some people on google said holding down the Fn key and tapping the Caps Lock or fn+esc will solve this issue. but did not work in my case.
Then i read the following solution on an HP forum. Not a solution by HP.
Some user came up with this workaround.
This worked for me. Copy-pasting the post below for future reference.
” I found a pretty decent workaround about this Fn lock issue after hunting down for a while. The workaround is sort of sophisticated, so you can give it a shot if you are really dedicated to solving this Fn lock issue.
The workaround method involves the use of a program called AutoHotkey.
AutoHotkey uses hooks to map the media function key presses back to F keys and F key presses into media functions keys to achieve the effect of “unlocking” the Fn lock.
My HP keyboard is Pavilion Wireless Keyboard 600 (black). I really like the white version of this soft & short-distance chiclet keyboard when I was trying it in BestBuy, but the white version is only sold together with the all-in-one. That means, I am using this HP keyboard with my custom desktop (non-HP brand) tower and unable to fix the Fn lock issue in the BIOS.
The attached code is written based on the association of media function keys and F keys on Pavilion Wireless Keyboard 600 only. Other models or brands of keyboards will likely to have different associations. You may look into the tutorial of AutoHotkey to customize your own code.
1. Go to https://www.autohotkey.com/download/ to download AutoHotkey.
2.Right-Click on your desktop.
3. Find “New” in the menu.
4. Click “AutoHotkey Script” inside the “New” menu.
5. Give the script a new name. It must end with a .ahk extension. For example: MyScript.ahk
6. Find the newly created file on your desktop and right-click it.
7. Click “Edit Script”.
8. A window should have popped up, probably Notepad. If so, SUCCESS!
9. Copy and paste the attached code into Notepad, and save the file.
10. Double-click the file/icon in the desktop to run it.
11. Create a shortcut of this .ahk file and move the shortcut to the “Startup” folder so that the script runs automatically every time you start windows.
The drawback of this method is that I haven’t found a way to revert the F7 & F8 keys. Therefore, only F1 through F5 and F8 through F12 can be reverted to achieve the effect of unlocking Fn lock by this code.
#NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.
SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory.
