Boot to safe mode (Important step)
Login to Admin level user account.
Open Registry Editor (start > run > regedit.exe)
For 32 bit user (x86) navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KasperskyLab\protected\KES10\settings
For 64 bit user (x64) navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\KasperskyLab\KES10\settings
to desable password option
Double click on EnablePswrdProtect and change the value to 0
to remove the current password
Double click on OPEP and delete the value
Restart your computer

I don’t actually know what went wrong for you. But the given solution worked for me.

It doesn’t work. After exiting safe mode the keys return to their original values.
